Orient Ray and Mako II

A few days ago I read about the Ray II in this blog here where the author states that it is a very good value for money automatic watch.

A few things that popped out about the Ray II is how good looking it is, it's in-house movement (Orient's own) and the great 200 m water resistance rating. AND all of that for usually less than $200!

For $200, the usual suspect is those Invictas that can be a hit or miss in terms of quality. And yet there's no in-house movement in those watches. And don't get me started with how un-original the Invictas are.....

Which is why I totally agree when saying the Ray II is a good value for money watch. A bona fide automatic watch by the Japanese watchmaker that gives a lot of value for the price it's seeking.

But, there's also another brother to the Ray II, that is the Mako II. The two watches are actually similar but have differences in the design.

As you can see, both Ray II and Mako II are about the same. The difference between them is in the details on the watch face. The Ray II is more sporty with the index circular hour markers on it.

The Mako II on the other hand, has a more casual look thanks to the numerical hour markers. It also has smaller minute markings on its bezel. If the Ray II in understated, the Mako II is much more understated! Check out this thread on reddit to know what the other watch fans were thinking about these two watches.

Speaking of the technical specification, both watches have exactly the same spec. Here is the spec for Ray II (taken from automaticwatchesformen.com):
