Battle Of Automatic vs Quartz Movement - Why Quartz Is Definitely Better

Everyone knows about quartz watch. The typical normal watch that runs on battery. It's ubiquitous and can be found almost everywhere around us from wristwatches to wall clocks to alarm clocks.

Chances are, if you see a watch, it's run by quartz movement.

Some people also know about automatic watch, the kind of watch that is more expensive and regarded of being a higher class than the quartz watch.

It's run entirely by using mechanical parts without any help from electric or electronic devices. Yep, it's a unique piece of device nowadays especially when almost everything around us have some form of electronics in it.

But even so, is quartz watch that bad?

Should you close your eyes on quartz watch and only buy or use automatic watches?

Well, I don't mean to burst your bubble but quartz movement is indeed better than automatic movement. Don't believe me? Check out these 4 reasons why I said so.

1- Quartz Watch Is Cheaper

This is one of the biggest benefit of quartz watch - it's so darn cheap!

A couple bucks can get you a watch, even though it's from China and might have some quality issue.

In comparison, the lowest price for automatic watch is around $50 per piece and you'll be lucky if it can last a few months. With the same kind of money, you can get a good quality quartz watch that last years!

2- More Functions Can Be Found On Quartz Watch

Since it uses electronics, there's a whole lot of functions that can be included into quartz watch.

Chronograph, GPS, second time zone, alarm clock, solar and others are some of the examples that a quartz watch can have. I mean, we can even invent smartwatches that can connect to our smartphones!

Try doing that automatic watch LOL =P

3- It's Very Precise And Accurate

Accuracy is another big factor that made quartz watch so popular when it was invented a few decades ago.

While we are all aware about the concept of time (1 second, 60 seconds = 1 minute, 60 minutes = 1 hour, etc), there's no real way to count time efficiently back then. Automatic movement was there but it's not accurate and susceptible to many external factors such as temperature and shock.

Quartz watch is like a miracle invention as it's much more accurate than automatic watch. It's also not as easily affected like automatic watch making it a very good watch for use.

4- It's Durable And Long Lasting

Due to its lower moving parts - just the watch face is moving while the other parts of it remain static - quartz watch movement is much more durable than automatic watch.

Automatic movement has hundreds of minuscule moving mechanical parts inside it, making it very susceptible to damage from heavy shocks.

Not to say that a quartz watch won't break from a fall but at the very least, if the watch is not very cheaply made, it should be able to survive a few accidental drops.
